Event Details

A discussion of culture, politics and religion in the Middle East and how they have influenced the rise and popularity of ISIS.  The discussion also considers Western foreign policy, its contributions to the current turmoil, and what Western powers can do to combat terrorism at home and abroad.

Presented by Cynthia Baxter -

Seen through her 8 years of experience in the diplomatic and business communities in Egypt, the speaker offers personal insights into the cultural, political and historical issues of the Middle East.  

Ms. Baxter has a Masters Degree in International Relations with a focus on Global Security and Foreign Policy from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.  She studied at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy in Herliya,  Israel where she earned a certificate in Counter-Terrorism Studies. Ms. Baxter also attended the Joint Military Attaché School for the Defense Intelligence Agency and has more than 1000 hours of training in Arabic language and culture from the Consolidated Language Curriculum in Washington, D.C.
